Open the phone on PC
Press P to open the phone. The interface also shows P to close it; use your own on-screen prompt if your controls differ.
The phone includes Map, Inventory, Notes, and Codex. Journeys are divided into Active Journeys and Completed Journeys. Read the current objective before choosing where to go.
Switch controls
For Switch, try the minus (−) button when opening the phone at night on the rooftop. It has worked for a Switch player in that situation. Phone footage also shows a minus-button close prompt, so follow the prompt for the screen you are on.
Switch 2: phone cannot be selected
If the phone is visible but cannot be selected normally, mouse mode is one possible temporary approach. It has helped a player with this specific selection problem, but is not a guaranteed fix for every controller or docked setup.
Do not use the PC P shortcut as a Switch 2 instruction. For travel once the phone works, see fast travel.
